Originally from Ghana, Selim pepper is an African pepper which taste is scented, resinous, slightly bitter, moderately spicy with a slightly minty scent. It owes its name to a sixteenth century Ottoman emperor. It is black and bumpy. In Senegal, it is mixed with the coffee which is then called Touba coffee.
